Purge Gases and Pneumatic Supply
The following gases and Swagelock fittings are required to install the respective instruments. If more than one purge gas is shown then you are free to choose the gas(es) necessary for your applications. If you require help with the choice of gases please contact us.
All gases should be pressure regulated 1 Bar = 15 psi = 103.5 kPa

Recommendations for Gases
The recommended purge gas for most analysers is nitrogen with a minimum purity of 99.9%. Other gases, such as air or oxygen and argon, may also be used. Air or oxygen is recommended for the purge gas when performing oxidation studies (DSC analyses).
The Diamond DSC autosampler can use the same gas supply that operates the pneumatics system to purge the working space. Use a supply of 99.9% pure nitrogen or air.
DO NOT USE HYDROGEN AS A PURGE GAS FOR THE DTA 7.
Helium is recommended for the purge gas when performing subambient DSC analyses with liquid nitrogen or for HyperDSC. Helium of 99.9% minimum purity is required
The balance protective gas for the Pyris 1 TGA and TGA7 should normally be nitrogen
The sample purge gas for the Pyris 1 TGA and TGA 7 can be nitrogen, air, argon, oxygen, helium or any other inert or active gas. The gas should not be reactive with the materials used in the construction of the Pyris 1 TGA or TGA 7, including Pyrex, stainless-steel and platinum.
The balance protective gas for the Pyris 6TGA should be nitrogen. The purge gas for the furnace can be any reactive gas since the furnace is very inert.
The purge gas for any instrument must be DRY.
Use a size 1A cylinder equipped with a pressure regulator that has a shutoff valve at the outlet. The shutoff valve should have 1/4-in. NPT male threads on the outlet side for connection to the analyzers purge gas line.
Compressed Air
The Pyris 1 TGA and TGA 7 require a pneumatic supply line for the furnace lift mechanism.
The Pyris 1 TGA and TGA 7 uses a pressurized cylinder to remove and cool the furnace. The cylinder is supplied with compressed air or nitrogen for proper operation at a recommended pressure of 25 30 psi. Never use pressure greater than 40 psi as damage to the cylinder may occur. It is recommended that the tank regulators used for the pneumatic supply have a maximum output of 0.69 MPa (100 psi) or less, since using higher output regulators may cause accidental damage to the cylinder.
Install a Filter Dryer
The filter dryer is an optional accessory that is used to remove moisture, carbon dioxide, and other impurities from your purge gas or any other gas used with a particular analyzer. Refer to Ordering Spares and Accessories, or contact your local Representative for assistance when ordering this accessory.
Install a TAGS
The Thermal Analysis Gas Station allows up to four purge gases to be connected to the thermal analyzer. Gas switching at a specified time or temperature is performed in a wide variety of ways through the software. The TAGS also fully controls the gas flow rate, independent of the gas, monitors parameters such as cylinder pressure, and detects rapid changes in pressure and empty cylinders.
